【Abstract】 In 2010, China shipbuilding industry has leaped into the front ranks of the globe in terms of shipbuilding completions, new contracting, hand-held contracting, however, compares with the powers such as Korea and Japan in respective of production planning, production dispatching management and production efficiency, China is only a big but not a power one. Production plan can’t be dynamically updated and reflect actual production progress; allocation of production resources and facilities are usually imbalanced; low management level of production dispatching, poor ability of production coordination, poor efficiency, long construction cycle and other problems influence China shipbuilders to improve their productivity and management level.System simulation technology could simulate the whole period of shipbuilding and perform the function of checking rationality and feasibility of production plan and forecasting possible problem hidden in production dispatching strategy, and in such context, the shipbuilder could make more foresighted decisions and optimized proposals with the help of system simulation technology.This paper has taken a shipbuilding factory in Shanghai as the simulation object based on eM-Plant software and carried out some other concrete research work as below:1. The author presents a systematic simulation method and process to finish shipbuilding simulation modeling in consideration with the complexity of shipbuilding system. The method presented by the author supposes that emulator could divide the shipbuilding company into three smaller layers——workshop layer, assembly line layer and facility layer in a top-down sequence at the beginning and then start modeling work from the simplest facility layer to the most complicated layer in a layer by layer way.2. The author learns experience from automobile and airplane industries and presents a series of scientific evaluation indexes which include operation rate, utilization rate of working hour, and production capacity to analyze results of shipbuilding simulation, in order to satisfy the actual need of production management.3. This thesis has mainly completed simulation modeling of production workshops which take charge of hull construction on the basis of certain Shanghai shipbuilding company’s actual production information referred to process flow, arrangement of operation area and facilities, stuffing, production schedule, and so on.4. According to the characteristics of shipbuilding management, the thesis has designed simulation control panel which has the function of inputting productive task data, viewing production records, monitoring the situation of logistics, analyzing output, and so on.This paper carries on researches and explorations about the application of system simulation technology to optimize shipbuilding system by means of eM-Plant software, fully proving that system simulation technology is a feasible and effective tool to improve the process of shipbuilding and manufacturing planning
